Speeding up Channel crossings
P&O Ferries and Irish Ferries have announced a space charter agreement for the Dover-Calais route, providing more efficiency for ferry customers. Under this arrangement, passengers and freight will be offered the next available departure upon arrival at the port, regardless of the carrier, which will ensure faster crossings, reduce port congestion, and cut carbon emissions.
The ‘Spirit of Britain’, built for the Dover-Calais route, will be chartered by Irish Ferries to serve customers. Initially focused on freight, the agreement will extend to passengers, providing greater travel flexibility and reducing waiting times. The collaboration aims to maximise ferry capacity and improve the overall ferry experience on the UK's largest commercial route. (pb)
