Spanish ports steer a steady course
According to data published by the Spanish port organisation, the total amount of goods moved in ports (imports + exports + cabotage + transits) during the first 7 months of the year came up to a total of 326.1 million t of merchandise handled, 2.1% more than in the same period of the previous year.
All items experienced increases except solid bulk, which decreased by a notable 9.1%. The goods moved under international transit, mainly in containers, totalled 92.1 million t, 7.3% more than in the same period of the previous year. Discounting these, merchandise traffic barely increased by a meagre 0.1% and totalled 234 million t.
Together, the ports of Algeciras, Valencia and Barcelona concentrated 46% of the goods moved: Algeciras added 62.2 million t (+ 3.1%), Valencia 48.1 million t (+ 8.2%) and Barcelona 39.7 million t (+ 0.2%). 81.9% of merchandise in containers was concentrated in these three ports. (fd)
