Spanish Ports growing less
According to data published by the Puertos del Estado, the Spanish state ports handled 133.1 million t of goods in the first quarter of 2022, 5.1% more than in Q1/2021. All in all, growth rates declined over Q1/2022 (from 9.4% in January to 8.6% in February).
Containerised merchandise fell by 5.6%, mainly due to the carriers' strike, which paralysed container traffic in several Spanish ports. Throughput of containers under the transhipment regime dropped by 7.4%. Solid (+14.1%) and liquid bulk (+11.4%) volumes increased, as did conventional general merchandise (+10.4%). Ro-ro cargo throughput grew by 6.5% to 16.9 million t. (sh)
