Spanish ports: good results in first nine months of 2019
The throughput figures of the Spanish ports showed a distinct improvement between January and September 2019. Total traffic (imports + exports + cabotage + transits) amounted to 418.5 million t of goods, 2.3% more than in the same period of the previous year.
The main item was general merchandise (207.5 t), followed by liquid bulks (142.4 million t) and finally solid bulks (68.5 million t).The Spanish ports that accumulated the highest traffic during this period were Algeciras, which totalled 79.3 million t (+ 1.91%), Valencia 61.4 million t, with a notable increase of 8.42% and Barcelona 50.6 million t (+4.49%).
Containerised loads totalled 148.1 million t (+4.2%), of which 81.7% were concentrated in three ports: Algeciras with 48.4 million t (+ 5.6%), Valencia with 46.5 million t (+ 8.5%) and Barcelona (26.1 million t and + 4.1%).
During the first nine months of the year, 13.2 million teu were moved in containers, 4.0% more than in the same period of 2018. Out of these, 7.1 million teu were shipped in international transit regime (+4.0%), 4.6 million teu in foreign trade (+ 5.9%) and 1.5 million teu in domestic cabotage (-0.9%). (fd)
