Spanish Ports continue on growth path in 2019
According to data published by Puertos de Estado, trade flows in Spanish ports grew to 89.9 million t in the first two months of 2019, 4.1% more compared to the same period in 2018. Goods in international transit increased by 7.4% to 24 million t.
Some 44.4% of the goods flow was concentrated in three ports: Algeciras, which moved 16.6 million t and registered an increase of 0.4%, Valencia with 12.8 million t and a remarkable 12% increase, and Barcelona, which maintained the level of the previous year (+ 0.2%) with 10.6 million t.
Around 92.3% of the containerised cargo flowed through six ports, with Valencia noting the highest increase (12.9%), followed by Bilbao (7.1%), Algeciras (5.3%) and Barcelona (3.4%). Decreases were registered in Las Palmas (- 12.1%) and Tenerife (- 13%). (kd)
