Solar Duck takes to the waters
The Dutch company Solar Duck and its partners, Japan’s Tokyu Land Corporation and Everblue Technologies, have launched plans for Japan's first offshore floating solar power generation and automated sailing boat technology demonstration.
The pilot project took place on 4 November, as part of projects led by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The Tokyo Bay ‘ESG Project’, which aims to create a sustainable city that looks 50 to 100 years into the future, aims to implement technologies in the fields of renewable energy and environmental improvement and resource recycling in the city’s central breakwater area.
The three companies aim to realise local production for local consumption of energy in the Tokyo Bay Area in future, through the practical application of Japan’s first offshore floating photovoltaic power-generation system and the demonstration of the marine transportation of storage batteries. (sh)
