Sister port agreement for trade and innovation
The port of Hueneme, California, and the port of Paita, Peru, have signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a sister port relationship, supported by the US department of state. The partnership aims to enhance trade, share best practices in port management, advance green energy initiatives, and promote sustainable development strategies.
As major trade hubs, the ports seek to boost economic growth, transparency, and safety while fostering international cooperation. The initiative also focuses on agro-exports, positioning Paita as a strategic gateway on South America’s west coast and leveraging Hueneme’s expertise in niche cargo handling.
The agreement reflects a shared vision for sustainable, innovative port operations that strengthen economic ties and benefit surrounding communities. (pb)
