Sino-Europe express boosts maritime Silk Road
The JadeWeserPort in Wilhelmshaven (Germany) marked the launch of the new China-Europe Express service (CEX) with the arrival of the ‘Kawa Ningbo’, a containership operated by Kawa Shipping.
This new direct connection between Ningbo (China) and Wilhelmshaven offers the fastest sea route between the regions, with a transit time of just 26 days and no intermediate stops.
The service currently operates monthly with 2,500 teu vessels, and is set to expand to fortnightly sailings with 5,000 teu vessels later in 2025.
The CEX service enhances the German port’s strategic role, including efficient hinterland rail transport to Budapest and potential connections to North America’s east coast. This development further strengthens ties on the maritime Silk Road and highlights Wilhelmshaven’s significance in global trade logistics. (pb)
