Single-wagon rail transport replaces 20 trucks per train

Rail Cargo Hungaria (RCH) has shifted steel raw material imports from road to rail for a steel works in Ózd (Hungary). The plant imports 250-300 t of steel wire per train from Ukraine. The material arrives on broad-gauge trains in Fényeslitke (Hungary), where it was previously loaded onto trucks and delivered to Ózd, 180 km away, by road.

To shift the transport to the railways RCH created a special single-wagonload system, as the wagons arrive in Hungary on Ukrainian wide-gauge trains and have to be transloaded to domestic standard-gauge wagons for their further journey.

With the successful implementation of this intermodal shift from trucks to the railways RCH now eliminates the pollution emitted by around 20 lorries with each train operated. (ben)
