Silk Road container train celebrates milestone
Russian Railways Logistics (RZDL) has despatched the 1000th express train in Brest (Belorus) in the direction of Zabaykalsk in Russia on the Chinese-Mongolian frontier. The 1000th container train is loaded with 71 containers, most of which are carrying automobile parts.
The express container trains have been running between Brest and Zabaykalsk since October 2011. They are operated jointly be RZDL, FELB and TransContainer in cooperation with other transport companies and are used primarily by car manufacturers such BMW, Volvo, Volkswagen and Daimler-Benz.
Currently they offer an average three round trips per week, with a transit time of 7 to 8 days from the Polish-Belorussian frontier to the border-crossing between Russia and China. (ben)
