Siemens retrofits DB cargo locomotives
DB cargo UK is modernising its fleet with the European Train Control System (ETCS), in partnership with Siemens mobility.
The first phase involves retrofitting nine class 66 locomotives, marking the start of a wider programme to equip all units of this series with the technology. The project is part of the GBP 1.4 billion east coast digital programme, replacing conventional signalling with digital cab systems. The retrofitting will be carried out at Toton depot and is set for completion by March 2026.
DB Cargo UK is also upgrading site infrastructure, including a new load bank, a washing facility and bridge cranes. Jon Harman, head of asset management and maintenance at DB cargo UK, pointed out that “this investment will secure the long-term growth of our sector.” (js)
