Shipping line launches express rail shuttle
At the beginning of July, CMA CGM introduced the Duisburg express rail shuttle as an expansion of its intermodal services. The new train connects Duisburg in Germany’s Ruhr region with Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Taking one day to complete the journey, the shuttle runs three times weekly from/to RWG, ECT Delta/HPH 2. The train has connecting with 16 ship line services covering the core regions Asia, Europe, ISC MEG and Americas. The introduction of the new intermodal service helps to reduce CO2 emissions, CMA CGM said. Rail emits 3.4 times less CO2 compared to a truck.
The new product follows the launch of an intermodal solution in Spain in early June, which provides a weekly connection between Valencia and Murcia. (ben)
