Sharkskin for clean air

Over the past year and a half, Swiss International Air Lines (Swiss) has equipped the whole fleet of its long-haul flagship Boeing 777-300ER with Aeroshark technology. The surface film applied to the fuselage and engines imitates the aerodynamic properties of sharkskin and reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions during flight.

Since this month, all of the twelve aircraft are flying with this innovative technology, the first time an airline has installed Aeroshark on its entire fleet. Swiss has gradually refurbished all its Boeing 777-300ER aircraft since the world's first scheduled Aeroshark flight in October 2022. In 2023, the airline was already able to save over 2,200 of paraffin and around 7,100 t of CO2 with only part of the fleet using Aeroshark. (cj)
