Seven daily trains for grocery deliveries

Maritime Transport in the UK has secured a new, three-year contract with the grocery retailer Tesco.

Under the new agreement, the privately owned transport company will manage, plan, and execute all rail operations at Tesco’s central distribution hubs within the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (Dirft) in the UK.

Specifically, Maritime will oversee the planning of seven daily rail services linking Dirft with terminals in Mossend, Tilbury, Wentloog, Teesport, and Inverness, while completing final-mile road flow operations to distribution centres and Tesco stores in Yorkshire, Middlesbrough, the Midlands, and London. The new agreement builds on Maritime’s thirteen-year history with Tesco. (ben) www.maritimetransport.com
