Self-driving truck in terminal
A specially developed fully automated truck is currently being tested in real-life logistics operations at the DUSS terminal in Ulm, Germany. The vehicle is deployed in the container depot of DB Intermodal and the DUSS-Terminal.
During the test runs a safety driver is in the cabin and a special digital infrastructure has been set up for the pilot operation. Experienced crane operators handle the containers so that operations can be tested under real-life conditions.
The German government has provided EUR 5.5 million in funds for the project "automated innovation in terminal processes", which is a cornerstone on the way to automating the entire transport process in intermodal traffic.
Project partners are truck manufacturer Man, component producer Götting and the Fresenius University of Applied Sciences. (ben)
