Second TIR hub opens in western China

The new TIR facility is based in in Urumqi, western China, a key transit city along the Belt and Road route. It is managed by the Xinjiang international land port and will further open up ‘door-to-door’ corridors for international road haulage and trade, in both directions.

It consolidates all essential transit services under one roof: customs clearance, warehousing, cargo handling, route development, and transport-capacity matching, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) said.

The first Chinese IRU-accredited TIR logistics hub opened in Kashgar in May 2024. The TIR system enables cross-border transports in sealed load compartments that are controlled by customs via a multilateral, mutually recognised system. (ben)
