Second TIR hub opens in China
The new facility is located in Urumqi, an important transit city along the Belt and Road Initiative in western China. It consolidates all essential transit services under one roof: customs clearance, warehousing, cargo handling, route development, and transport-capacity matching.
At the opening ceremony, the Chinese delegation said that the Urumqi TIR logistics hub will further open up ‘door-to-door’ corridors for international road transport, in both directions.
The TIR system connects China with over 30 countries in Eurasia, offering more secure transport options that are over 80% faster and 50% cheaper, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) said. China’s first TIR hub opened in Kashgar last May. (ben)
