Second round for 2M and Zim
The 2M Alliance, the carriers Maersk and MSC, and Haifa (Israel)-headquartered Zim are extending their cooperation with a second agreement, following the one on the Asia-US east coast trade announced in July 2018. Now both hemispheres are covered.
The new agreement, consisting of a combination of vessel sharing, slot exchanges and purchases, covers two additional trades - the Asia-East Mediterranean and Asia-American Pacific Northwest. Two strings will be operated in cooperation in each trade.
The new services are due to start from Asia in March, subject to FMC and other regulatory approvals. To supplement and complement its services in the East Mediterranean, Zim is planning to introduce a new array of exclusive, Zim-operated feeder lines synchronized with the mainliners and catering to the regional market.
A detailed announcement regarding the new regional network will be issued in due course, the carrier announced. (kd)
