Second attempt to increase maindeck capacity
In order to successfully implement the tasks stipulated in the "national programme for the development of civil aviation of Turkmenistan" for 2012-2030, president Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow signed the purchase of two converted A330-200 earlier this month. On this basis, on 18 January 2021, during an online conference held between the state-owned carrier and Airbus, a purchase agreement was signed.
No delivery dates, or any other details, were disclosed. It might be recalled that in June last year, the Central Asian republic's government said it planned to acquire one B777F from Boeing through Aircraft Finance Germany, but it seems that this contract was never concluded.
Aside from three IL-76TD (photo), Turkmenistan Airlines does not, at present, operate any other main-deck freighters. (ah)
