Seaports of Niedersachsen on solid path in 2018
Lower Saxony’s nine seaports handled around 50 million t of seafreight in 2018, a slight decrease compared to the 53 million t in 2017.
However, the upward trend in the general cargo and container sector continued. The 2018 tonnage rose by another 9.7% to 14 million t, following on from a double-digit growth rate in seafreight (2.8 million t) in 2017.
Liquid and dry bulk commodities dropped from 40 million t in 2017 to 36 million t last year. The new vehicles segment registered 1.78 million units in 2018 (2017: 1.92 million units). Despite the minimal decline, the business continues to guarantee success for the port industry in Lower Saxony (Germany). (kd)
