Seafarers' welfare in the spotlight
The Sustainable Shipping Initiative (SSI) has welcomed The Mission to Seafarers as its latest member, emphasising the critical role of seafarers in the maritime industry's transition to sustainability.
SSI, which comprising members from all parts of the maritime ecosystem, is committed to integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles into the industry. Key initiatives include the 'delivering on seafarers’ rights' code of conduct and the right ship crew welfare tool.
With the mission's support, SSI aims to enhance seafarer representation in discussions on decarbonisation and the adoption of new technologies, ensuring that their insights and challenges are addressed.
The collaboration underscores the importance of seafarer welfare not only as an ethical necessity but also as a cornerstone for a sustainable shipping sector, SSI said. (pb)
