Scotland’s first all-electric tractor unit
Scottish whisky producer Chivas Brothers is now deploying the first all-electric tractor unit to be delivered into service in Scotland.
The Volvo FM Electric 6x2 tractor unit pulls a tri-axle box van trailer and operates at up to 44 t gross vehicle weight. It can haul 24 t of whisky per journey and will cover between 400-480 km per day, clocking up at least 100,000 km per annum. The truck forms the basis of a first-of-its-kind pilot programme. This unit alone will cut Chivas Brothers’ carbon emissions by 155 t per annum. (ben)
