Schenker expanding Swiss terminal
Schenker Switzerland has launched construction work to expand its overland transport terminal in Eiken.
The plans include an additional 9,800 sqm of terminal space on two floors, adding a total of over 15,400 sqm. The expansion will include a new warehousing structure with two levels, an underground car park and integrated office and social facilities.
The building will meet ‘Minergie A’ standards, incorporating a photovoltaic system and charging points for electric trucks. The Eiken site plays a key role in Schenker’s European land transport operations. Due to its location near Germany on the northwestern border of Switzerland and its direct motorway access, it supports international freight flows. As the company has reported the extension came in response to increasing demand. (js)
