Scheduled routes system bears fruit
In 2019 Ukrainian Railways transported 40.5 million t, which is the highest amount since Ukraine gained its independence in 1991. Transport volume is 20.1 % higher than in 2018. Currently there is an annual increase of grain yield; Ukrainian Railways and the market players have therefore improved their logistics services.
For example, the railway company implemented the scheduled routes system, while the owners of cargo-lifting equipment increased investments in their infrastructure.
These efforts helped to improve the frequency of railfreight services and consequently raise the speed of grain shipments for exports. Currently, the company has a fleet of 28,000 grain carriers. (ben)
