Scandlines' eco "Futura" ferry
Scandlines' new zero-emission freight ferry, the "Futura," made its first appearance on water at the Cemre Shipyard in Turkey on 25 November 2023. This eco-friendly vessel is set to operate on the Fehmarnbelt route between Germany and Denmark starting in 2024.
"Futura" is a 100% electric vessel, equipped with the world's largest battery system, and represents a commitment to responsible, efficient travel, offering emission-free journeys between Germany and Denmark. The 147.4-m -long ferry can carry 66 freight units, 140 passengers, and boasts a 45-minute crossing time, with a 10 MWh battery system.
The ferry, named to honour the Fehmarnbelt's future, will enhance the travel experience for truck drivers and passengers, aligning with Scandlines' commitment to sustainable travel and the anticipation of continued service even after the opening of the Fehmarnbelt fixed link. With this EUR 80 million investment, Scandinlines aims to reinforce its efforts to support the environment and improve customer service. (pb).
