SBB crosses golden threshold in the Bözberg tunnel
Another milestone has been reached on the 4 m corridor in the Gotthard axis in Switzerland: the "golden sleeper", the last stretch of the slab track in the Bözberg tunnel, was concreted yesterday, 6 February 2020.
The new tunnel in the canton of Argovia is the largest single project which SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) has built on this corridor on behalf of the Swiss confederation. The total costs of the 4 m corridor are estimated at CHF 710 million.
As from the timetable change in December 2020, trains will be able to ship semitrailers up to 4 m high on the entire Gotthard axis through Switzerland.
Overall, 13,000 cbm of concrete, 13,000 sleeper blocks and 8.2 km of tracks were required to build the slab track in the Bözberg tunnel. (ben)
