Saudi ports also still climbing
The ports of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia passed a threshold in May 2022. The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) reported that its total container throughput amounted to 600,107 teu, which is a 1.4% increase compared to numbers recorded in May 2021. In- and outbound was even.
Exported containers rose by 2.6% with a total of 176,000 teu, while imported containers declined slightly by 0.6% with a total of 177,000 teu. Transhipment containers in Saudi ports soared to more than 247,000 teu, which is a rise of 2% compared to the numbers recorded during the same time last year.
Initiatives launched by Mawani, in line with the national transport and logistics strategy (NTLS), had their impact. Similarly, cargo throughput increased by 23.7% and amounted to more than 21 million t. General cargo was at the head, recording a 22% increase and reaching a total of 810,000 t. The number of vessels calling the ports rose by 3% to 1,020 vessels. (sh)
