Samskip retrofits vessel for zero-emission future
Samskip has partnered with Teco 2030 as part of the EU-supported Hy Eko Tank project to refurbish its vessel, “Samskip Kvitnos”, with hydrogen-powered fuel cells. The initiative aims to achieve zero emissions by 2040, ensuring compliance with upcoming EU and Norwegian regulations.
The “Samskip Kvitnos” operates on a fixed route along the Norwegian coast, and this project aligns with the shipping line’s broader decarbonisation strategy, which includes the use of biofuels, shore power, and CO2 capture systems. The retrofit is expected to be completed by 2025, reducing emissions while maintaining operational efficiency. (pb)
