Salzburg airport makes a stand
Last week’s meeting of the federal association of logistics Austria (Bundesvereinigung Logistik Österreich, BVL) at Salzburg airport focused on the future challenges of the airfreight industry. Managing director Bettina Ganghofer used the opportunity to present the handling of freight traffic at the airport.
Salzburg did not compete with the “enormous cargo segments” of the large airports, she said, but it could be considered as “a valuable asset for the domestic air cargo market.” Currently, the airport is not planning any investments for expansions, since the air cargo business clearly takes second place at this location.
With a ratio of 9:1, the region’s main means of freight transport is road haulage. On the other hand, the logistics industry now intends to make better use of the existing number of scheduled and charter flights to transport air cargo. (ah)
