Salmon and whisky exports for e-commerce imports

Today, 11 February 2025, Hong Kong Air Cargo (HKAC) will begin flights to Glasgow Prestwick airport (PIK), making it the first Far Eastern airline to operate at the airport.

Its Airbus A330-200F flights will initially run on 11, 18 and 25 February, carrying e-commerce shipments from Shein, Temu and TikTok. PIK aims to fill return flights with Scottish salmon and whisky, two of the UK’s top exports to Asia.

PIK’s business development director Nico Le Roux is confident, as the move “highlights Prestwick’s growing role as an e-commerce hub.” HKAC chairman Tony Ma added that “the airport’s location and fast turnaround times make it ideal for our UK expansion.”

PIK works with Scottish exporters to reduce reliance on London Heathrow’s airfreight services and maximise outbound cargo. Each flight will carry up to 60 t of cargo, handled by the Royal Mail Group and Evri for final-mile delivery. (ah)
