Routine inspection leads to fentanyl seizure
US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Norfolk, Virginia, intercepted 117.8 g of fentanyl hydrochloride during a routine inspection of an export container on 8 November. The container, destined for Sierra Leone, carried three older Toyota sedans and personal effects.
Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 100 times stronger than morphine, was found concealed among the items. This small quantity, potentially lethal even in tiny doses, highlights the dangers faced by CBP officers and others in the supply chain. The officers seized the substance, and an investigation is ongoing. CBP continues its mission to combat fentanyl trafficking and protect public safety. (pb)
