Rotterdam's CER now active
The Container Exchange Route (CER), a 17 km closed road network at Maasvlakte, Rotterdam, was officially commissioned on 28 November 2023. It connects major terminals, including Rotterdam World Gateway, Hutchison Ports ECT Rotterdam, Q Terminals Kramer Rotterdam, and the state inspection terminal for customs.
The CER, unique in scale and cooperation, is accessible only to transport companies with an authorised economic operator permit, ensuring controlled and secure transport. It supports various transport forms like multi trailer systems and terminal tractor units, aiming to process increasing container volumes safely and efficiently.
The implementation of the CER aligns with the Port of Rotterdam Authority's goal to enhance the port's status as a container hub and contribute to sustainable logistics. Future expansions are planned to integrate more terminals, depots, and distribution centres into the CER network. (pb)
