Rotor sails for MOL and Vale's bulk
The Japanese shipping company Mitsui O.S.K Lines (MOL) and the Brazilian mining company Vale International, (Vale) have announced a new environmental initiative.
Together, they plan to retrofit a 200,000 t class bulk carrier with rotor sails produced by the Finnish company Norsepower Oy. This firm already had a mid-term contract with Vale.
By using technology and engineering from Norsepower, the new vessel will reduce fuel consumption as well as emissions. The sails are scheduled to be installed in H1/2024. (lh)
