Rostock becomes hub for Silk Road traffic

The first 49 containers with industrial and medical products from Xi’an in Shaanxi province in central China have arrived in the overseas port of Rostock in Germany via the rail and sea route of the New Silk Road. DB Cargo Eurasia organised the transport.

From China, the train travelled through Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Lithuania to Kaliningrad in Russia, where the container ship "Dornbusch" of the shipping company Mann Lines took over the cargo. The ship arrived in Rostock yesterday, Wednesday, 8 April 2020.

Here, DB Schenker lifted the containers off the ship and despatched most of them on a block train to Duisburg. Other containers were sent to Verona in Italy and others by ferry via Trelleborg to Sweden.

Currently, the shipping company Mann Lines offers one container transport service between Kaliningrad and Rostock per week. (ben)
