Romania to resume old Soviet line to Ukraine
Romania has published a tender for the repair of the old Soviet wide gauge rail line between the Romanian Port of Galati and Giurgiulesti in Moldova for RON 1.289 million (EUR 260 million).
The restored line will allow to transport grain and other goods from and to Ukraine via Moldova and the Romanian Danube port. The tender is to end on 19 May 2022. The reinstallation of the rail link will take 60 days after signing the contract.
Once in operation, the port of Galati will join the Romanian port of Constanta as key hubs in the region for the transport of goods and raw materials, the Romanian government said. (ben)
