Röhlig to reduce sea freight emissions
Röhlig Logistics is working on reducing shipping emissions in collaboration with the container shipping line Hapag-Lloyd. The agreement sees the logistics provider leveraging Hapag-Lloyd’s “Ship Green” biofuel product, which enables to cut emissions during ocean transport.
These biofuels, derived from waste and residue-based feedstocks, ensure that 100% of Röhlig’s shipments’ footprints are avoided within the shipping line’s fleet. The venture focuses on eliminating all “well-to-wake” emissions, which are directly related to ship operation, be it production, transport or distribution of fuels.
Based on this collaboration, Hapag-Lloyd can continue working towards achieving its net-zero shipping target by 2045 with its fleet of 287 container ships. (mk)
