Roadmap towards carbon neutrality
Decarbonising the road sector, which comprises more than 65 million heavy-duty vehicles and accounts for 2.5% of global CO₂ emissions, is an essential step towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. Now the road transport industry has launched the global Green Compact, a paper that provides a clear roadmap to cut CO₂ emissions by at least 3 billion t annually, the International Road Union (IRU) said.
The paper maps collective action from industry and government on new technology and infrastructure, modified operational practices and better collective services for transport users.
The measures proposed in the paper include a broad practical implementation of low and zero carbon fuels, a wider use of eco-trucks and more efficient vehicle technologies. (ben)
