Road to rail shift saves 150,000 t of CO2
In Sweden, Containerships has started its own shuttle service between the Port of Helsingborg and Mälardalen, with Green Cargo operating the trains.
The state-owned railway will also continue to transport Containerships’ cargo within Sweden to Gävle, Gothenburg, Södertälje, Norrköping, Eskilstuna and Stockholm. The contract is valid for one year starting in April 2021.
Thanks to the partnership with Green Cargo and the shift from road to rail, Containerships reduces its carbon emissions by about 150,000 t per year, just between Helsingborg and Stockholm.
The multimodal transportation company and the Swedish carrier have been collaborating in rail-based container transport services since 2012.
