Road haulage: operators must have a choice
The International Road Union (IRU), the European Shippers’ Council and Fuels Europe are demanding a long-term solution for the decarbonisation of transport.
In a joint letter sent to the EU executive vice president, the partners have called for the full and equal recognition of liquid carbon neutral fuels for internal combustion engines, alongside electric and hydrogen fuel cells, in proposed EU heavy-duty vehicle CO2 regulations.
For a well-functioning EU logistics sector, road transport operators and shippers must be able to decide which technology is best suited to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, the organisations said. (ben)
