Road funding flows into waterways
The German federal ministry of transport and infrastructure (BMVI) is making additional funds available this year for replacement, repair and expansion projects on federal waterways, using capital that was left over from road construction projects.
With an investment of EUR 200 million, Germany is once again significantly strengthening the climate-friendly waterways and thus increasing its efforts to achieve its climate targets.
The road construction funds that have been freed up will flow, among other things, into measures to optimise unloading on the Lower Rhine, to upgrade the navigable channel on the Lower and Outer Elbe and the weirs on the Main and Lahn rivers, and also into projects within the BMVI's sustainability strategy, such as the construction of electric charging stations.
