RMI: 15 years of qualship 21 certification
The Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) has been recognised on the US coast guard's qualship 21 roster for 2019-2020. The USCG programme rewards vessels for commitment to safety and quality when calling at ports in the United States. Only flag states which maintain a port state control detention ratio of 1% or less over a three-year period and also meet a set of judgement criteria are eligible for the programme.
A vessel registered in a flag state with this certification may apply to be certified for qualship 21 by completing an application form on the USCG website. So far, RMI is the only registry to have maintained this position for 15 consecutive years.
As of 4 March 2019, 32.25% of the registry's flagged vessels have successfully achieved qualship 21 certification, with 16 vessels having e-zero certification as well, which represents 29.63% of all e-zero certifications. (kd)
