Rising traffic in the Baltic Sea pushes Kiel
Kiel's seaport handled a record 7.6 million t in 2021, 9.3 % above 2020. Volume increases on the Gothenburg line (+16% to 2.1 million t) and the Klaipeda line (+9% to 2.9 million t) more than compensated for the 12% decline in the paper business to 660,000 t.
Dirk Claus, managing director of the port company, was "particularly satisfied with the volume achieved in the cargo sector." For 2022, Kiel expects a further improvement in the cargo sector, among others. (sh)
