Rising figures in Hamburg
The terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) concluded the first half of 2019 with rising revenue and results. In conjunction with an increase in revenue in the logistics segment and a once again moderate uptick in revenue from property management, total revenue amounted to EUR 693.7 million (+ 9.6 %).
The operating result (ebit) grew even stronger by EUR 14.4 million, or 14.4 %, to EUR 114.3 million, although effects from the initial application of the IFRS 16 standard accounted for EUR 7.1 million of the ebit increase. Container throughput went up by a moderate 3.8% in the first half of 2019 to 3.77 million teu.
Once more, the intermodal segment improved further over the period. With an increase of 9.6 %, container transport rose to 782,000 teu. This trend was driven by growth in both railfreight and road haulage. Compared with the previous year, railfreight increased by 9.3 % to 610,000 teu.
Due to the takeover of North America services and the first full-year consolidation of throughput volumes of the HHLA TK Estonia container terminal, HHLA expects a slight overall increase in container throughput in 2019. (cd)
