Rising cargo yields in the Far and Middle East
Cathay Pacific’s cargo business of benefited from robust demand in 2018. Group revenue grew by 18.5% to USD 3,607 million. Capacity of Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon increased by 2.6%. The load factor inched up by 1 percentage point to 68.8%. Tonnage carried was up 4.7%. Yield rose by 14.7% to USD 0.26, reflecting an increase in high-value specialist cargo shipments and higher fuel surcharges.
Etihad Cargo, the freight division of UAE's national carrier Etihad Airways, said it recorded a strong performance, referring to a cargo revenue of USD 827 million (2017: USD 877 million) with 682,100 leg tonnes carried (2017: 853,300 tonnes). Cargo FTK decreased by 21% (from 4.3 billion to 3.4 billion), with a 15.5% increase in yields. (ah)
