"Rielp" launched
The Ridley Island Export Logistics Project (Rielp), a major component of the plan devised by Canada's Port of Prince Rupert to fully integrate intermodal activities between terminal, logistics and rail, has reached a significant milestone now that it has received the final determination of the Federal environmental effects evaluation review.
Following receipt of required permits, early works are planned to begin in early March, with tree clearing and site preparation activities. The port operator says that the project will not cause any damage in the environment.
Rielp aims to reduce container truck movements and emissions in facilitating the link and loading of goods between containers terminal and rails. By setting up 400,000 teu, the port will handle commodities such as plastic pellets, cereal grains, speciality agriculture crops, lumber, and pulp, to support Canadian exporters. (lh)
