Rhenus reflects on Swiss operations
Rhenus looks back with satisfaction on its 2023 business year in the Swiss market, with Rhenus Alpina introducing numerous innovations in sustainability and automation last year. The logistics service provider opened Switzerland's first autonomous mobile robot (AMR) facility in Basel, increasing efficiency in order processing.
Retaining its focus on sustainability, the company plans to open a centre in Möhlin at the beginning of 2025 that will operate entirely without fossil fuels. Another ongoing project is the transhipment terminal 4 at the Rhine harbour, which will be completed in the summer. Thanks to a photovoltaic system, it generates 2.4 million kWh of electricity, which corresponds to the annual requirements of Rhenus Port Logistics.
Despite a decline in freight handling and a slowdown in demand, Rhenus posted total sales of CHF 434 million last year. The company is satisfied with this result and is now focusing on its projects and activities in 2024. (mk)
