Rhenus builds trimodal terminal in Basel’s port

Aiming to enhance the efficiency and environmental sustainability of import/export traffic in the region, the company expects to open the terminal in late summer 2024. Basel, a key logistics hub in Switzerland, connects the country with major European ports via neighbouring regions in Germany and France.

The new terminal, replacing existing facilities, will cover 7,300 sqm and feature advanced infrastructure including five cranes and modern rail and truck scales. Its roof will host Basel's largest photovoltaic system, producing around 2.4 million kWh annually to cover Rhenus Port Logistics' energy needs and enable CO2-neutral operations.

The facility will support the efficient transfer of goods such as aluminium, steel, and excavated material using solar energy. This investment aims to promote efficient, eco-friendly goods handling and sustainable customer collaboration. (pb)
