As the shopping season enters in full motion, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the international mail facility (IMF) of Los Angeles airport have intensified "Operation Mega Flex", a CBP-led ongoing nationwide aggressive crackdown in seizing illicit goods arriving in small parcels from China.
In just one day last month, CBP officers at LAX IMF intercepted 812 shipments (photo) with counterfeit fashion articles, prohibited plant and animal products and other threatening items for consumers, businesses and the environment.
Their New York Field Office colleagues, home to two IMF (JFK and the Port of New York/Newark), inspected over 4,000 shipments, detained 174 shipments for review by the US Food and Drug Administration and seized 127 shipments for IPR violations and 18 agriculture products. (ah)
