Rest stations for drivers in India
Amazon’s Ashray project is providing its delivery associates with rest points in India, aiming to set up five pilot centres in the country’s major cities.
The inaugural site was opened in Gurugram, Dehli NCR, in late August, while two further ones came on stream this month in Bengaluru’s Electronic City and Cox Town. Fitted with washrooms, seating, drinking water, and charging stations, the rest points offer a 30-minute visit for up to 15 drivers at a time.
The project is designed to provide support to drivers throughout the country, which is why more such facilities are planned in the coming months.
To cope with extreme weather conditions on the Subcontinent, Amazon restricted deliveries during the peak hours of heat this summer, while also working on health programmes for truck drivers. (mk)
