Rerouting cargo in Central Asia
In Turkmenistan, construction has begun on the new railway line between Darbaza (Turkmenistan) and Maktaaral (South Kazakhstan).
With a length of 152 km, the line will also include a new checkpoint across the Kazakh-Uzbek state border. It will enable carriers to move cargoes from the existing section to the new branch and increase overall export traffic to Uzbekistan.
The project will also contribute to the development of the Turkestan region by connecting it to the main railroad network in Kazakhstan. In addition, cargoes bound for Afghanistan, Iran, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan will pass through this line faster, Kazakhstan’s prime minister said. (ben)
